If your monthly heating and cooling bills are too high, the best way to shrink them is by installing energy efficient Marvin®Austin windows and doors from Amazing Exteriors. Here’s why.
Independent tests found that 23% of the energy used to heat and cool a building is lost through inefficient windows. The study also found that replacing you home’s windows with more energy efficient windows can reduce energy costs significantly.
For example:
- Single-pane Low-E glass: 39% savings
- Double-pane Low-E glass: 51% savings
- Triple-pane Low-E glass: 53% savings
How does installing replacement windows result in such dramatic improvement in efficiency? The combination of insulated fiberglass frame and sash and a thermally efficient window glass package creates an effective thermal barrier that significantly reduces energy transfer into and out of your home. As a result, your home stays warmer all winter and cooler during hot summer months. Which means you’ll be spending less money to run your heating and cooling systems.

What's the deal with that label on your Austin replacement windows?
Every Marvin replacement window installed by Amazing Exteriors comes with a label containing independently tested energy performance results. These performance figures were generated by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC), an independent non-profit organization that administers the only nationally accepted rating system for energy performance of windows, doors and skylights.
The NFRC provides fair, accurate and reliable energy performance ratings so that architects, engineers, builders, code officials, contractors and homeowners can compare different products and make informed choices. Any manufacturer claiming to produce energy efficient replacement windows should be able to provide your testing results from the NFRC and include the organization’s label on every window that qualifies.
When reading the NFRC label, pay particular attention to these measurements:
- U-factor measures how well a glass system prevents heat from escaping. The lower the U-factor, the better the glass system. U-values generally fall between 0.20 and 1.20. The lower the U-factor value, the better the window unit is at keeping heat inside your home during cold weather, and cool air inside during hot weather.
- Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) measures how well a product blocks heat caused by sunlight. It is expressed as a number between 0 and 1. The lower the SHGC the better a window is at blocking unwanted heat gain.
- Visible Transmittance (VT) measures how much light comes through a product. It is expressed as a number between 0 and 1. The higher the VT, the more light is allowed through the window.
- Air Leakage (AL). The lower the AL, the less air will pass through the window assembly. It is expressed as a number between 0.1 and 0.3. The lower the AL the better the window is at keeping air out.
Since it measures the overall thermal conductivity of the entire window unit, including glass, frame and sash, the lower a window’s U-factor, the better the energy performance of the window. U-factor depends on:
- Quality of the materials used
- Type of materials used
- Engineering and design of the window
- Quality of assembly
